This blend is common to many countries but poses a stark dilemma for Japan’s citizens. Theirs is a country whose economic zone is five times the size of China’s, that is dependent on external sources for over 90 percent of its energy needs, and which is supposed to react to threats in self-defense under a constitution imposed during a postwar occupation (1945-1952). The so-called Peace Constitution (1947) forever renounces: war; the use or threat of force to settle disputes; military forces; and war potential.</div> <ul class="links inline list-inline"><li class="node-readmore"><a href="/index.php/jrnl/art/avoid-security-dilemma-complex-warfare-japanese-characteristics" rel="tag" title="To Avoid a Security Dilemma: Complex Warfare with Japanese Characteristics" hreflang="en">Read more<span class="visually-hidden"> about To Avoid a Security Dilemma: Complex Warfare with Japanese Characteristics</span></a></li><li class="comment-comments"><a href="/index.php/jrnl/art/avoid-security-dilemma-complex-warfare-japanese-characteristics#comments" title="Jump to the first comment." hreflang="en">1 comment</a></li><li class="comment-new-comments"><a href="/index.php/taxonomy/term/836/feed" class="hidden" title="Jump to the first new comment." data-history-node-last-comment-timestamp="1632487294" data-history-node-field-name="comment"></a></li><li class="comment-forbidden"></li><li></li></ul> Mon, 16 Dec 2019 10:16:58 +0000 SWJED 130614 at http://archive.smallwarsjournal.com Why Trump Pushed Arms Sales in Asia http://archive.smallwarsjournal.com/index.php/jrnl/art/why-trump-pushed-arms-sales-asia <span>Why Trump Pushed Arms Sales in Asia</span> <span><span>SWJED</span></span> <span>Sat, 11/11/2017 - 2:53pm</span> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p> President Trump has signaled his intention to further fuel the escalating arms race in Asia and profit from it.</p> </div> <ul class="links inline list-inline"><li class="node-readmore"><a href="/index.php/jrnl/art/why-trump-pushed-arms-sales-asia" rel="tag" title="Why Trump Pushed Arms Sales in Asia" hreflang="en">Read more<span class="visually-hidden"> about Why Trump Pushed Arms Sales in Asia</span></a></li><li class="comment-forbidden"></li><li></li></ul> Sat, 11 Nov 2017 19:53:02 +0000 SWJED 80229 at http://archive.smallwarsjournal.com Battle of Guadalcanal: Systems and Military Culture http://archive.smallwarsjournal.com/index.php/jrnl/art/battle-of-guadalcanal-systems-and-military-culture <span>Battle of Guadalcanal: Systems and Military Culture</span> <span><span>SWJED</span></span> <span>Fri, 12/23/2016 - 1:57pm</span> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p> Japan’s defeat at Guadalcanal was led by its “closed systems,” the military culture of <em>Gekukojo</em>, and a military strategy dismissive of operational art.</p> </div> <ul class="links inline list-inline"><li class="node-readmore"><a href="/index.php/jrnl/art/battle-of-guadalcanal-systems-and-military-culture" rel="tag" title="Battle of Guadalcanal: Systems and Military Culture" hreflang="en">Read more<span class="visually-hidden"> about Battle of Guadalcanal: Systems and Military Culture</span></a></li><li class="comment-comments"><a href="/index.php/jrnl/art/battle-of-guadalcanal-systems-and-military-culture#comments" title="Jump to the first comment." hreflang="en">2 comments</a></li><li class="comment-new-comments"><a href="/index.php/taxonomy/term/836/feed" class="hidden" title="Jump to the first new comment." data-history-node-last-comment-timestamp="1483462398" data-history-node-field-name="comment"></a></li><li class="comment-forbidden"></li><li></li></ul> Fri, 23 Dec 2016 18:57:59 +0000 SWJED 57851 at http://archive.smallwarsjournal.com
