In analyzing nations’ sources of power, American political scientist Joseph Nye popularized the concepts of hard power, or “the ability to use carrots and sticks of economic and military might to make others follow your will,” and soft power, an influence which “co-opts [nations] rather than coerces them.”</div> <ul class="links inline list-inline"><li class="node-readmore"><a href="/jrnl/art/projecting-soft-power-through-state-partnership-program" rel="tag" title="Projecting Soft Power Through the State Partnership Program" hreflang="en">Read more<span class="visually-hidden"> about Projecting Soft Power Through the State Partnership Program</span></a></li><li class="comment-comments"><a href="/jrnl/art/projecting-soft-power-through-state-partnership-program#comments" title="Jump to the first comment." hreflang="en">1 comment</a></li><li class="comment-new-comments"><a href="/taxonomy/term/621/feed" class="hidden" title="Jump to the first new comment." data-history-node-last-comment-timestamp="1632480622" data-history-node-field-name="comment"></a></li><li class="comment-forbidden"></li><li></li></ul> Fri, 14 Feb 2020 05:36:58 +0000 SWJED 134094 at http://archive.smallwarsjournal.com Treading Softly: Winning the Peace in the Human Domain http://archive.smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/treading-softly-winning-peace-human-domain <span>Treading Softly: Winning the Peace in the Human Domain</span> <span><span>SWJED</span></span> <span>Wed, 09/04/2019 - 1:11pm</span> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item">What if you never had to go to war because your strategy in peace was so effective that the carnage of a future war could be avoided?
