Commandant Wayne Tyrrell LLB, BL, MA, initially trained as a Cadet in the Irish Defence Forces’ Military College, Wayne passed the Irish Air Corps flight training course and qualified as a military fixed wing pilot in 1997, then undertaking a number of operational flying appointments. Having qualified as a lawyer and been called to the Bar in Ireland, he has been appointed as a military legal advisor in the Irish Defence Forces’ Headquarters and has served overseas in Liberia, Lebanon and Chad. He currently advises on the Law of Armed Conflict and prosecutes at Courts-Martial. Wayne also lectures externally as an associate lecturer in European Union Law as well as acting as a guest lecturer on International Humanitarian law for the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in San Remo, Italy, and the NATO School in Obberamergau in Germany.
