The Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University would like to invite you to “Counterinsurgency: History, Theory, and Practice,” a day-long symposium on the military doctrine that has officially guided the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2007.

I would recommend reading Che, Mao, Fanon, and other insurgent writings as well. We have preached to our young officers and enlisted for years to "think like the enemy," but do we ever actually study the enemy? Insurgents do follow doctrine, by happenstance at times, but they do.

When talking about History of COIN, it's quite often don't study the Spanish case in the Prtectorate of Moroco during the 20's last century.

The linked document is very useful to study an other case of succesful COIN a part from the well known cases in Argelia or Malaysia.
