Dr. James J. Valdes received a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Texas Christian University and an NIEHS post-doctoral fellowship in Neurotoxicology at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He was the Army’s Scientific Advisor for Biotechnology (ST) from 1990 until he retired from government service in 2014. Dr. Valdes chaired the first four International Conferences on Biosensors, a Keystone Symposium on Environmental Biotechnology, and a NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Toxicogenomics and Proteomics. He currently holds appointments as visiting Senior Research Fellow at the National Defense University, and in Bioengineering at the University of Maryland. He is the author of more than 130 peer reviewed scientific papers, seven patents, and 40 government technical reports. Dr. Valdes was awarded the Presidential Rank Award (Senior Professional) in 2003 and 2009. He is currently Chief Scientist at Excet, Inc.
