Book Review of The Endgame: The Inside Story of the Struggle for Iraq, from George W. Bush to Barack Obama by Gian Gentile, New York Journal of Books.
“The essential point The Endgame misses, however, is what the Surge really showed, which . . . is not the unlimited prospects for American military power in the future but its very real and defined limits.”

Same old Gian. Petraeus didn't really do have any effect, Petraeus biographers who have something good to say about the guy are "hagiographers", the strategy actually remained the same implying big Army really had it right all along etc. It isn't really a book review, it is more an outline of how the history of the conflict as written by the authors isn't in line with the history of the conflict as seen by Gentile, and oh yeah, Petraeus isn't so big.
